Golf marathon raises $4,700 for children
Sire Advertising President Shawn Felty played
108 holes of golf on May 28 to raise $4,700
for two children’s organizations in the
Susquehanna Valley.
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The inaugural Sire Advertising Golf Marathon raised $4,700 to benefit two non-profit organizations dedicated to helping and improving the lives of children living in the Susquehanna Valley: the Selinsgrove Seals Day Camp and the Donald L. Heiter Community Center.
More than 60 individuals and businesses sponsored Mr. Shawn Felty, President of Sire Advertising, to play 108 holes of golf on Wednesday, May 28, at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club to raise funds for the two aforementioned organizations. Felty teed off at 7 a.m. and made the last putt at 6:46 p.m. to complete the 108 holes of golf.
“The response from people who wanted to contribute was overwhelming,” said Felty, a life-long resident of the Susquehanna Valley. “I would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who helped make the first one a memorable one. The proceeds are supporting two organizations dedicated to helping children who will be our Valley’s future.”
All of the proceeds from the Golf Marathon will be divided between the two great organizations. According to Felty, a second Golf Marathon is being planned for 2009.
The Donald L. Heiter Community Center, 100 N. Fifth Street in Lewisburg, opened in 1993. The Center was renamed for local police chief Donald L. Heiter, who was instrumental in starting the original Lewisburg Community Center along with other individuals from the community to develop an environment where local youth could interact responsibly. The Center is a valued community resource that hosts programs for all ages.
The Summer Seals Day Camp, based at Selinsgrove Area Middle School, selects 30 children each summer for a one-week program to help them improve their reading and/or mathematical skills. The Camp, led by a director, certified teachers, education students, and many volunteers, has produced remarkable results. The Camp also includes educational day trips to places like the Crayola Factory, the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and others.
